‘Life’s taught me nothing is permanent’

Taiwo Akinwande would hardly ring an immediate bell. But mention her stage name, Yetunde Wunmi, and a lot of faces would light-up instantly. The Ogun State born actress who is celebrating her 35 years in the industry today, tells Medinat Kanabe the highlight of the day is the launch of a book that chronicles her life since she started out as a thespian and the challenges.

Free kidney treatment for neighours

Medinat Kanabe writes about a hospital that decided to offer free kidney check-up in its neighbourhood.
When some Lagosians residing along the Lekki area of the state visited the Healing Stripes Hospital, Lekki last week, their intention was to just go for a normal check-up but they ended up discovering that their kidneys were not functioning well.

Diary of a witness: Medinat Kanabe looks at malnutrition and how to prevent it

Rekiah’s father brought her to the crèche by 7.30 am. He gave her bag to the nanny and quickly ran out to meet up with his work. Her mother had already gone to her place of work.
Almost immediately her father left, she began to cry. This reporter who was at the crèche to make an enquiry noticed the baby crying. She wasn’t crying like all the other children. It was as though she didn’t have the strength to cry.

‘I’ll never return to England. They’re damn racists.’

Although life in the United Kingdom was a roller-coaster, with a huge dose of ups and downs, 25-year old Henry Asu was not prepared for the shock removal order that saw him dumped at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos along with 47 other Nigerians penultimate Wednesday. For hours, Henry was stranded at the airport and at the mercy of airport workers, who mercifully did their best to help him, until The Nation’s Medinat Kanabe caught up with him. His story.

Violence of teenage love

Increasingly, times are changing, and the world is witnessing unusual development, including teenagers or children- if you like –  falling in love and willing to kill to preserve their love. Medinat Kanabe takes a look at the rising spate of violence and killing by young people over love
Ibrahim Ogunkoya is a 19-year-old, Oyingbo, Lagos boy with a big dream of becoming an international footballer. He had even begun pursuing his dream, as he had started playing for a local league football team.

Solar Energy to the rescue

Although, the sun has been in existence since man- or even before him, if we’re to follow the Bible and the Qur’an; it wasn’t until recently that scientists began inventing devices that can be powered by solar (Sun) energy. Medinat Kanabe, in this report, looks at the solar energy and how Nigerians can benefit from it.
As the world continues to evolve, scientists have continued to come up with alternative and easier ways of doing things, one of which is inventing devices that can be powered by solar.

‘People say I sing like Ebenezer Obey’ •says man blind from childhood

Kasimiyu Olowookere is a visually-impaired gospel musician, with two albums to his credit. In this interview, he told Medinat Kanabe how he became blind; his journey into music, boasting that he would defeat even the sighted in a musical competition.

‘It takes 38 years, N40 million to translate the Bible’

The General Secretary Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN), Rev. Dare Ajiboye, spoke with Medinat Kanabe on the 50th anniversary of the body as well as what it costs to have the bible in local languages
Tell us about The Bible Society
BSN was founded on the 8th of February 1966, so by the 8th of February 2016, we will be 50.

In a bid to reduce maternal and child death in many developing countries, governments are partnering with Traditional Birth Attendants, TBAs on how to reduce risks of infection, mortality rate and generally improve their services. Medinat Kanabe takes a look at how well this partnership is working, taking Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos, as a case study.

A tale of two model colleges

Founded on same basic principle, mission and vision, Taiwo Alimi & Medinat Kanabe, examine, why two Lagos State model colleges  contrast so sharply in facilities and modus operandi
The crammed dormitory will shock, even, regular visitors. Thirty-six bunk beds in three lines stare back at you on entering the 40’X25′ bedsitter.

Erectile dysfunction: What you should know

Erectile dysfunction is a major defect in the male gender, directly linked to sexual dissatisfaction. In this interview with consultant urologist, Dr Jeje Ajibola, Medinat Kanabe explores the possible causes.
