Egypt court drops murder charges against Mubarak

A court in Egypt has dropped charges against former President Hosni Mubarak over the killing of 239 protesters during the 2011 uprising against him.
The Cairo court erupted in cheers when the judge said Mubarak should not have been a defendant in the case as the charges against him were added late.
Charges against seven senior ex-officials were also dropped. The decision could be appealed.
Victims' relatives expressed dismay and frustration.
In a television interview after the ruling, Mubarak said he had done "nothing wrong at all."
The former president, 86, is serving a separate three-year sentence for embezzlement of public funds.
He is currently being held in a military hospital, and is expected to serve at least a few more months of this sentence.
Mubarak, his former interior minister, Habib al-Adly, and six others had been convicted of conspiracy to kill and were sentenced to life in prison in June 2012, but a retrial was ordered last year on a technicality.

PDP factions ignore court ruling, hold primaries in Ondo

The two factions of the People's Democratic Party in Ondo State held their separate House of Assembly primaries on Saturday despite the Abuja High Court Ruling nullifying the Caretaker Committee instituted by the National Working Committee of the party.
However, in Idanre, Ondo East, Ondo West and Ese Odo council areas of the state, party members defied the line of differences and chose to hold a harmonized primaries.
The court had ruled that the caretaker committee set up by the PDP NWC should have nothing to do with issues of primaries and sustained the tenure of the current party working committee in the state.
It was gathered that INEC officials in the state stayed away from the primaries conducted by both factions due to the conflicting reports about the Friday Judgement.
Chairman of the Old PDP Ebenzer Alabi and representatives of the Mimiko-led faction, the Attorney General and Justice Commissioner Eyitayo Jegede and the State Cooperative and Community Development Commissioner, Clement Faboyede, were seen at the INEC office in Akure to complain about the failure of its staff to witness their Primaries.
But security operatives were present at the venue of the primaries of the factions, even as the exercises were peacefully conducted across the state.
While primaries were held in some constituencies, outright ratification of consensus candidates were done in many of the areas yesterday.

[PHOTOS] Christ Embassy pastors beat member to coma

There is an ongoing 'war' between U-cheena, Producer of Destiny Child Gospel Talent Hunt and Chris Oyakhilome's led Christ Embassy Church as the former is pressing charges against some Pastors as well as staff and security of the Church for assaulting her and one of her staff, Mr Daniel.
She had also briefed her team of lawyers who are currently preparing to sue the Ministry in an epoch making case in the history of Christianity in Nigeria, thus demanding a whooping sum of N1bn compensation from Christ Embassy for assault, battery and breach of contract.
Recall that the church has been triggering social media attacks following the recent marital clash between the founder, Chris Oyakhilome and his wife, Anita, which led to the ministry pulling off anything connected with Pastor Anita on both the Ministry's website and that of Pastor Chris due to some marital differences.
It was gathered that problem ensued after U-cheena rented out her LED screens to the church for the ongoing IPPC program in Lagos.
Findings revealed that U-cheena'sCompany "Eventz.comLimited" rented out its LED screens at a 90 percent discount to the church for a barter arrangement and the Church to bare logistics cost.

Fayose says he is not a part of Ekiti Assembly crisis

Govenor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has said he is not involved in the crisis rocking the state House of Assembly.
Fayose, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, said: "It is not only ridiculous to link the executive arm of government with what is happening in the legislative arm," saying "there is separation of powers among all tiers of government and Governor Fayose is not a member of the assembly."
According to him, "one does not need to be a professor of Mathematics to know that one-third of 26 is nine and the rules of the assembly is that nine members forms a quorum and when that number of lawmakers agree to sit and deliberate on issues, they are covered by the rules of the assembly.
"For those having any doubt about the identity of the legislators attending the sitting of the assembly, the best place to find out is from the assembly. Anybody interested in that can contact the Clerk of the assembly.
"The lawmakers have the constitutional rights to decide who leads them at any point in time. All the members are equal, choosing a leader among them is their constitutional duty and nobody can dictate to them who should be their leader at any point in time.
