Mother’s horror as she discovers thousands of maggots dropping from her ceiling are result of a dead body decomposing in upstairs flat for a month

A family plagued by thousands of maggots falling into their kitchen were horrified to discover that the source was a body which had been decomposing in the flat upstairs for a month.
Karen Davy was baffled when the bugs began dropping from the ceiling of her home in East Dulwich, south London – and called in police who broke into the flat upstairs and found a decaying body.
The housewife, who shares the flat with her teacher husband Tayo, 40, and their children Naledi, 15, Caira, 11, Micah, ten, and Ayanda, nine, said it has now become overrun with the maggots and flies.
Mother-of-four Mrs Davy, 37, said: 'I can't even sleep at night. I have been sitting up waiting for them to appear, and then frantically cleaning with a bucket of bleach when they do.
'The kids are traumatised. The younger ones are frightened to go into the kitchen. I'm disgusted by the maggots, but more traumatised by what happened to my neighbour.
'The housing group first said they would come round, but then said it was nothing to do with them – it was only when I got the police involved we found the problem.
And they still haven't sorted it. We've blocked the hole ourselves, but they are still finding a way in. Now they are starting to turn into flies, and the council still haven't cleaned out his flat. It's disgusting.'
The family first noticed a few maggots on September 17 but returned from a meal two days later to find hundreds in their kitchen.
Mrs Davy called Southern Housing – one of the country's largest housing associations – and after days of making calls, claimed they failed to take action.
After several sleepless nights, she began asking neighbours if they were suffering similar problems, and with the help of a caretaker peered into the flat above.
She said: 'We looked through the window, and I've never seen anything like it. There were flies coming out of the window above my head, and then were was a breeze of air from inside and the smell was horrendous. I almost threw up. I called the police straight away.'
'The kids are traumatised. The younger ones are frightened to go into the kitchen. I'm disgusted by the maggots, but more traumatised by what happened to my neighbour'
Police broke into the property and discovered the body of ex-Gulf War soldier Richard Williams, 49, on September 22.
And, a week after the body was found, Mrs Davy claims Southern Housing has still not cleaned the upstairs property.
Mr and Mrs Davy tried to block the hole in the ceiling next to their water pipe where the maggots had been entering – but they were still getting in.
She added: 'It's disgusting. They've removed the body but the council haven't cleared up. I don't know how much longer we can go on like this. I can't even spray an insecticide because of my daughter's asthma and I'm fed up.'
A Southern Housing spokesman admitted it had not been able to clean the flat above because of the police probe. The firm has now carried out pest control treatment in Mrs Davy's flat.
Regional operations manager Stephen Lee said: 'Southern Housing Group would like to apologise for any distress that has been caused to Ms Davy by the maggots coming into her flat from upstairs.
'We have carried out a treatment for maggots in Ms Davy's flat but unfortunately, due to the ongoing police investigation in the flat above, we have not been able to enter the premises above.
'We looked through the window, and I've never seen anything like it. There were flies coming out of the window above my head'
'As soon as we are given the all clear from the police we will be able to send in our pest control contractors to address the issue. We are continuing to work with the police to resolve this issue as soon as possible.'
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: 'Police were called to an address in SE22 at 11.44am on September 22 after concerns for the welfare of a man.
'A body was found at the address which has not yet been formally identified, but which police believe it to be the registered occupant, a 49-year-old man.
'A post-mortem was conducted at Greenwich Mortuary on September 26. No cause of death has been determined at this time and further tests are being conducted.
'Whilst police do not have an exact time of death, the man had not been seen for a number of weeks. Next of kin have been informed. The death is being treated as unexplained at this time but is not believed to be suspicious.

$9.3m scandal: Oritsejafor violated company law, says Falana‎

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has accused the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, of breaching the provisions of the Company and Allied Matters Act through the use of a private jet belonging to a company in which he had interest to smuggle $9.3m cash to South Africa.
Falana said by the provisions of CAMA, the jet which was allegedly registered for the facilitation of evangelism could not be leased to another company for commercial purpose, as CAN had said while defending Oritsejafor.
The lawyer said this in a paper he delivered at a seminar organised for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's prosecutors by the Justice Research Institute in Abuja.
He described as diversionary, the statement credited to CAN that the jet had been leased to another company, apparently to deny Oritsejafor's involvement in the jet's mission to South Africa.
He said, "Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, whose private jet was used to ferry the money to South Africa, has denounced those who have dared to challenge the involvement of a plane bought for evangelism in the alleged smuggling of laundered money.
"In spite of the diversionary statement of CAN, the influential pastor cannot dismiss the scandal with a wave of the hand. With respect, the explanation by CAN that the jet was leased to another company is an admission of the breach of the law.

I’ve no hand in $9.3m, says Oritsejafor

  1. The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, on Monday said he knew nothing about the controversial $9.3m smuggled into South Africa by two Nigerians and an Israeli, using his private jet.
Oritsejafor broke his silence during the National Executive Council meeting of CAN at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
The CAN leader regretted that there had been attempts in the media to link him with the incident by mischievous elements, adding that he had kept quiet all the while, because he needed to explain his position to the church which is his primary constituency.
Oritsekafor, in his address, a copy which was emailed to one of our correspondents ‎ in Kaduna State, declared that he was never a party to the movement of the $9.3m from Nigeria to South Africa to purchase arms and ammunition.

Can you change your spouse's character.

"I love you the way you are and l dont expect you to change to accommodate my needs"
It takes two to argue. We often complain about our spouse attitude and how it gets on our nerves .But to be honest, look into the mirror and tell yourself the role you play in accepting our spouse's behaviour or trying to change what is unlikely to be changed. And ask ourselves too,if we are ready to change?
To have accepted to marry your spouse ,you must be ready to accept the whole essence of the individual being.
In marriages, people are unlikely to change no matter how much their spouse demand it,says Andrew Christensen, professor of psychology at UCLA.
Most of the things we complain about in our spouse are actually our daily life routine. For example house chores, being a critic, not actually listening when our spouse talks, not paying attention to the children collectively, not devoting attention to the marriage and lots more.
"The wanting to change our spouse may make us dislike characters that attracted us to our spouse at first" says Christensen&Jacobson.
Early in the relationship we are less concern and hardly pay attention to important character issues or we just decide to ignore these differences and live in "fantasy"that things will change or we can make our spouse change.

A’Ibom students demand refund of exam fees

Dozens of Environmental Health students, Akwa Ibom State College of Health Technology, Etinan, on Monday besieged the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, demanding a refund of their examination fees.
The students have accused former Head of Department of Environmental Health of the college, Mr. Mfon Etuk, of embezzling over N1m examination fees before his redeployment to the Ministry of Health.
The students carried placards with inscriptions like: "Mfon Etuk return our money"; "heartless father"; "selfish administrator"; "entrusted fellow" and "Mfon is more dangerous than Ebola".
A student, Mr. Mfon Etim, said the students only succeeded in meeting the Protocol Officer as they didn't see any member of the State House following the House adjournment till Tuesday.
The students also went to protest at Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation, where they interacted with journalists.
They added that they have concluded arrangement to invite the Nigeria Police to arraign the former HOD for alleged theft.

No accurate pensioners data in Nigeria -Official

The Director-General of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, Mrs. Nellie Mayshak, said on Monday in Kaduna State that there is no accurate record of retired public servants in the country.
Those affected by this, according to the DG included, retired federal civil servants, police, immigrations, prisons and other para-military agencies.
Consequently, the Director-General who spoke at a one-day sensitisation workshop for pensioners drawn from the North-West geo-political zone of the country, said the directorate would soon embark on verification exercise of pensioners to ascertain the number of pensioners in the country.
She said those to be verified by the directorate included retired federal civil servants, police, immigrations, prisons and other para-military personnel, excluding retired members of the Armed Forces and the Department of State Security that had their own pension management scheme.
She lamented that lack of accurate and verifiable database remained one of the major obstacles against the smooth management of pension in Nigeria, and to address the problem, there was need for verification of pensioners who had served the country.

Dirty tricks used by stations and attendants to rip off customers

Mrs. Bisola Ayeni, a businesswoman in her early 40s confidently left her house at Egbeda (Lagos) with an almost empty tank heading for Ikeja. The red light of the fuel indicator was blinking nonstop but Ayeni knew the quantity of fuel in her tank would take her to the next available filling station where she had hoped to fill up her tank.
Indeed, as she got to the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Ayeni drove into the filling station and told the attendant to fill her car with N5,000 worth of fuel while she rummaged her handbag to bring out the money as well as pick a call. That was her undoing.
Ayeni would tell our correspondent that she didn't bother to look at the pump while the sale was on because she didn't envisage any foul act, besides she knew the level a N5,000 worth of fuel would rise to on her fuel gauge. Ayeni only managed a quick glance at the meter and when she saw that it was reading, she relaxed and enjoyed her discussion on the phone.
She said, "When I finished, I looked at the pump and I saw N5,000 on the price column, I paid him and drove away. I expected the light indicating low fuel to go off and the indicator to rise, but it didn't happen.
"Even if the rise in the fuel indicator would be gradual, I expected a major shift. Lo and behold, the light never went off and the indicator never rose.
"Oh my God, I was confused and very angry, so I turned back, while praying that the car wouldn't run out of fuel. By the time I got to the petrol station, I was fuming."
Ayeni said she had almost slapped the attendant who attended to her having shouted on him when the station manager came out.

Life is about learning. Anybody open to information has a greater advantage in life. Our life generally is worth learning about. Why we have problems is because of ignorance. Anything we know nothing or little about will always stand as a mountain before us. Living a happy married life demands learning how it works. Living a life free of dependent demands that we discover how to stand alone. Living an organised life demands that we learn how to be organised. The only way to level that great problem is to learn how to. Learning, what a great tool it is.

Man gets 6-months jail term for stealing 46 eggs

A resident of Mabushi in Abuja, Musa Abdullahi, has been asked to spend the next six months in prison for stealing 46 pieces of eggs.
This is according to a sentence delivered on Friday, 27 September, 2014 by Senior Magistrate Grace Adebayo-Eisapeat at the Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
The magistrate handed down the judgment after the convict had pleaded guilty to committing the crime, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
It was gathered that Adebayo-Eisape, who told the convict that the judgment was to serve as a lesson to others who might want to commit the same crime, also gave Abdullahi an option of N30, 000 fine.
The accused, a sales representative to one Salisu Datti of Wuse Market, Abuja was said to have been carrying out this crime for a long time before he was caught on 21 September.

6 Ways to get the girlfriend of your dreams

She walked past me in the opposite direction. Her face was eclipsed by a black umbrella tilted slightly forward, but I could see her lips, and my senses were tempted. At that moment, I was pushing through an after-work crowd with a friend in tow, talking about how to meet women. Serendipity struck; my friend and I kept talking, but my heart wasn't in the conversation anymore. My head turned sharply, looking back as if caught by a fishing line, hooked and in tow. Her jeans hugged her curvy form and brought attention to her feminine physique. Long, brownish hair with golden highlights cascaded over her shoulders and rested lightly against her back. It was raining, ever so slightly, but still enough to feel the cold, damp air penetrate my clothing. The street was busy with people dressed in suits and overcoats leaving their offices, hustling to make it home for dinner and to find their favorite spot on the couch to kick their feet up.
I looked back again and she was starting to disappear into the crowd. Mid sentence, I broke away and ran back, dodging umbrellas, briefcases and power-walking office types.
I got her attention as if I wanted directions and she stopped briefly to face me.
A look of surprise and caution formed on her face when I told her why I stopped her, then she started slowly walking away. A ton of people were walking through our conversational bubble, making it even more awkward as the space in between us widened, but I persisted. "You walked past me and I ran back because I wanted to meet you," I said.

'Pregnant' Chibok schoolgirl now in military custody

The Chairman, Chibok community in Abuja, Tsambido Abana, said on Friday that a girl, suspected to be one of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls and abandoned by the Boko Haram terrorists in Adamawa, is in military custody.
Mr. Abana told PREMIUM TIMES that the girl, who identified herself as Suzanna Ishaya, is receiving medical attention in a police hospital in Yola, under the supervision of the Nigeria Army.
Mr. Abana said reports that the girl was already four-month pregnant is not an issue for the Chibok community, although stigmatisation might set in. He said the most important thing is that the girl was found alive.
"She's in a police hospital in Yola, under the supervision of the army. Even the pregnancy issue, we don't want to talk about it because of the stigmatisation. The most important thing is that she is alive," Mr. Abana said.
Mr. Abana confirmed that the girl wandered in the forest for about three days before she was found in a village near Mubi, Adamawa State.
He said the girl identified herself as Suzanna Ishaya. He, however, could not verify the girl's age.
When asked if any of the parents in Chibok have been able to identify Suzanna as theirs, Mr. Abana said the GSM network has been a challenge.
"No, we have been calling them but there's no network completely at Chibok, so we can't say that any parent have confirmed that the girl found (Suzanna), is their daughter," he said.

Most of the time I hear someone who is heart broken say "You don't know what it feels like to be in this situation," I see myself being disadvantaged in understanding people. Solution finally came when I cultivated the ability to place myself into some elses situation. Most relationship lacks this. That's why most relationship is void of true understanding.

Fayose's supporter assassinated

A staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is also believed to be one the followers of the Ekiti State Governor-elect, Mr Ayodele Fayose, Chief Omolafe Aderiye, was shot dead last night by some unknown gunmen.
Incidentally, Aderiye was among other supporters that followed Fayose to the High Court complex in Ado-Ekiti early in the morning when the governor-elect attended the sitting of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
He also left the venue with Fayose and followed him to Fayose's Spotless Hotel, GRA, Ado-Ekiti where the governor-elect attended to his supporters.
It was gathered that some assassins trailed Aderiye, who was a former state Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers to his office in Ijigbo area of the town and shot him dead.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Victor Babayemi, who spoke on the phone, said he had no comment for now.

S’Africans set to sue TB Joshua

Two South Africans who lost relatives when a church hostel in Lagos collapsed have told the BBC they intend to sue the General Overseer of Synagogue Church of All Nations, Pastor Temitope Joshua.
The BBC reported that the two men, who both lost sisters in the collapse, were appealing for more families to come together in bringing a case against the preacher.
At least 115 people, including 84 South Africans, died when the multi-storey building fell down on September 12.
The authorities said it had more floors than its foundation could hold.
On Sunday, Joshua announced plans to travel to South Africa to visit the families of the deceased.
Officials suspect the foundations were not suitable for extra floors to be added to the building
Emergency workers alleged they were prevented from participating in the rescue, only gaining full access to the site on Sunday afternoon. But Joshua had denied these accusations.
"I understand that some families are afraid to take on someone who purports to be God's messenger and I don't blame them but I will do this," Thanduxolo Doro, whose sister died in the Lagos collapse said.
Thanduxolo Doro and Mpho Molebatsi waited at Johannesburg's OR Tambo airport for days after the collapse for news of their sisters, who had been visiting SCOAN.
Both families had last heard from their relatives hours before the collapse.
"It is not that the building collapsed, rather what was done after the collapse – we didn't get any news from the church," Doro, whose sister Vathiswa Madikiza died, told the BBC.
"When I contacted them they wouldn't tell me anything. We saw reports that emergency workers were denied access initially, access that could have saved lives. The actions of the church after the incident are very telling," he said.
In an open letter published in South Africa's Star newspaper, Doro called on more families to sue Joshua.
"I need to do this for her. Even if I stand alone, I am determined to see that something is done," he told the BBC.

Woman who buried one day old baby, others arrested

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a woman, Ms Patience Aaron, for attempting to kill her new born baby girl.
It was learnt that Aaron, an indigene of Afaha Abia village, in the Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state, on September 14, buried her one-day baby alive.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gabriel Achong, said during a press conference in Uyo on Thursday that the baby was rescued alive nearly five hours after she had been buried.
"The state police detective on September14, 2014 arrested one Patience Aaron of Afaha Abia village in the Nsit Ibom LGA for attempting to kill the baby girl she gave birth to.
"Patience buried her one-day-old baby in a shallow grave. The baby was rescued alive. Investigation is in progress," he said.
The CP, however, added that it was discovered that Aaron was ill and had been taken to a hospital
The command also arrested 36 others for various offences, ranging from murder to foiled armed robbery and recovery of N8.9m between the months of August and September.
The command arrested one Kufreobong Anwana in the University of Uyo for possession of improvised explosive devices. Another suspect, Udo Effiong, was nabbed for stealing two solar batteries and a panel. One Andre Moses, a driver with Union Bank Plc, Lagos, was picked up for absconding with his boss' Hyundai and selling the vehicle to a Ghanaian in Port Harcourt.
Achong said the police also rescued stolen children ─ Goodness Sunday (2years); David Eyo (2years); Edikan Sunda (9years); and Gift Joshua (13 years).
The commissioner also explained that on August 25, a manager of a telecommunications company in Ikot Ekpene with one of his drivers went to lodge N8.9m in a bank.
He added that some hoodlums on a motorcycle trailed them, shot the driver of the vehicle and dispossessed them of the money. He said the police rounded up the hoodlums and recovered the money.

German ethics council calls for incest between siblings to be legalised by Government

Germany's national ethics council has called for an end to the criminalisation of incest between siblings after examining the case of a man who had four children with his sister.
Patrick Stuebing, who was adopted as an infant and met his sister in his 20s, has launched several appeals since being imprisoned for incest in 2008 and his lengthy legal battle has prompted widespread public debate.
Sexual relations between siblings or between parents and their children are forbidden under section 173 of the German criminal code and offenders can face years in prison.

True maturity is when someone step on you and you look that person in the eye, smile, and move on. He will soon look like a baby and feel cheap after the test of time.
True maturity is when you keep your calm when you have been accused of something you never did. Time will make the accusers look stupid.
True maturity is when you make a relationship work at your expense, and nobody seem to appreciate your sacrifice.

Zoo staff watches as Tiger kills boy

White tiger attack: Delhi Zoo staff face investigation after they 'did nothing for 15 minutes' when student fell into enclosure
Witnesses say the animal 'watched' the man for a long period of time, and only attacked when onlookers started throwing stones
An inquiry is underway into the circumstances in which a young man with mental health problems was killed by a white tiger as it emerged zoo officials took more than 15 minutes to reach the scene of the incident.
Witnesses said the white tiger, Vijay, had sat and watched the man for 15 minutes after he either fell or clambered into the enclosure at a Delhi zoo. It was only when onlookers started throwing stones at the animal, presumably in an effort to distract it, that the tiger fatally attacked the man.

Shekau is well, alive –Boko Haram negotiator

Borno-born journalist said to be a close ally of Boko Haram, Ahmad Salkida, has dismissed the reported killing of a top leader of the outlawed Islamist sect.
Salkida, who is on self-exile in the United Arab Emirates over alleged threats to his life, said he has it on "authority" that Abubakar Shekau was hale and hearty.
Writing on Twitter, Salkida, who is widely reported to have had an unfettered access to the late Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf, stated that residents of the various communities in the north east have yet to feel the positive impact of the recent gains in the counter-insurgency operations.

If you've tried to make things work out right and its not just working, then look into yourself and scare the devil out.
- George Momah

sometimes in our lives we could be the devil behind our situations. Life is not about winning arguments, its about making things work for ourselves. There can be no good peace like the one we create for ourselves. If we have to experience true peace, then we must learn to humble ourselves and sacrifice our ego to make things work. We shouldn't regret starting a fire we have the power to stop when the house has been totally burnt.

Do you mean to frustrate a relationship and allow it die a natural death? Very easy, starve it of communication. - George Momah The reason most relationship fall apart is as a result of lack of seasoned communication. Research proves it that women have 70% strength to communicate verbally everyday. And men have just 30% strength to communicate verbally everyday. Please note that if either party don't unleash this percentage everyday, it kills something in them. Research encourages us to communicate effectively everyday because it's a way of keeping us healthy. Never call "lack of communication" a love game, such is tantamount to murder. Let's be careful.

Katsina governor indefinitely detains student for criticizing him on Facebook

You might want to think twice, when next you want to say a word against the Kastina state Governor on social media.
It might even be better if you open a new account with a new identity before doing such.
A Nigerian undergraduate in his early 20s, Abdulmalik Sa'idu, has been locked up for criticizing the Governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema, on Facebook.
Unfortunately, Sa'idu has been in jail for over 20 days now and it doesn't appear he would be released any time soon.
Sa'idu was arrested for posting details of an alleged fertiliser scam in Katsina state on his Facebook page, only to receive a phone call on August 28th from someone at the Katsina State government house, saying there was a message he had to receive at the governor's residence.

Foods to eat as you grow older

As we get older, nutrition rules change—or at least get stricter. Some vitamins, such as B12, become
even more important with time. But at what age do we need to make changes?
Dietary experts believe that these recommendations should be addressed at different stages of life,
and it's probably safe to start thinking about them in your 30s. "Why wait until it's too late?"
Here's how—and what—to include in your diet as you get older.
1. Seek out vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 is often overlooked. Needed to make blood cells and improve cognition, vitamin B12
gets into the body along with animal proteins like eggs or meat.
Most young people easily get it in their diet. But for the body to use B12, it needs to dissolve it away
from the protein. This gets more challenging with age as the level of stomach acid decreases.
B12 not bound to protein is found in fortified cereal and supplements and is more readily absorbed
by the body. Starting at age 50, you should get most vitamin B12 from these types of fortified foods.
2. Eat more bananas
Blood pressure tends to rise as we age. To combat this problem and lower stroke and heart attack
risk, you should eat less sodium and more potassium.
Furthermore, many hypertension medications have a diuretic effect that lowers both sodium and
potassium levels in the body. Both of those electrolytes are necessary in a certain amount, but you
need more potassium than sodium. To replenish potassium, look to fruits and vegetables. A banana
is always a good choice, and baked potatoes too (with the skin).
3. Cut calories
As we get older, our metabolic rate slows down, so our calorie intake should drop accordingly.
We don't need as much to keep us moving. In general, people also tend to move less as they get
older. Extra calories may mean extra kilos, which ups heart disease and diabetes risk, as well as
osteoporosis and osteoarthritis risk. Every bite should be crammed full of as many nutrients as
possible.
4. Spice it up
With age, a drop in saliva and taste-bud power can leave some foods lacking 'pop'. Don't try to
fix the problem by reaching for the salt shaker; there are millions of other spices that don't have
sodium that you can enjoy.
Try new food flavours and textures, and avoid overcooking food to keep it from losing flavour. And
add more hot pepper or other spices like curry if you like them. It might make you drink more water
or milk, which is also good.
5. Drink more water
While your sense of taste can decline over time, so can your sensation of thirst. In addition, certain
medications—such as antihistamines and blood-pressure drugs—can make you more prone to
dehydration. That means making a greater effort to get enough fluids. In fact, dehydration is one of the main reasons older adults end up in the hospital.
It is recommended that women drink about 2.2 litres, or 9 cups, of water a day, and men drink
3 litres, or 13 cups. Try to limit coffee, tea, and alcohol. Caffeine and alcohol are diuretics, which
increase dehydration risk.
