Boko Haram ‘funded through CBN’

A large chunk of the finances of Boko Haram may be passing through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), an Australian with close links to the militant group has told TheCable.
Dr Stephen Davis, who was in Nigeria for four months trying to negotiate with Boko Haram to release the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls, said Boko Haram commanders told him a senior CBN official, who cannot be named by TheCable for legal reasons, was fully involved in the funding of the insurgency.
Davis, who spoke with TheCable on phone from Australia in his first interview with a Nigerian journalist, said Western countries could not trace the majority of the source of funding to Boko Haram because "it is done through a legal channel, through the gatekeeper, the CBN, and that makes it very easy to cover up".

A child has died in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland after being left in a car
A 16-month-old child has died after it was forgotten by one of its parents and left in a car for several hours, a Swiss prosecutor has said.
Local authorities claim the child had been left for a "number of hours" in the backseat of a car parked in a company car park in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.
Neuchatel prosecutor Marc Remy said the parent "went to work, forgetting to leave the baby in the usual childcare facility."
He added: "It was not until the end of the working day when they went to pick up their child, that they realised the tragedy had occurred."

Deadly Ebola virus Consumes the Lives of Five Researche rs!

Five co-authors of latest study on outbreak died before research was published
Five co-authors of the latest study on Ebola were killed by the virus before their research was published, highlighting the huge risks undertaken by those working to combat its spread.
The study, published on Thursday, discovered the virus has mutated many times during the outbreak in West Africa, making establishing a treatment more difficult.
Mbalu Fonnie, Alex Moigboi, Alice Kovoma, Mohamed Fullah and Sheik Umar Khan worked with lead researchers at Harvard University to examine the current outbreak.
Science Mag said all five were experienced members of the Kenema Government Hospital's (KGH) Lassa fever team. Lassa fever infections have similar symptoms to Ebola.
Their work sequenced the virus genomes from 78 patients and traced the outbreak in Sierra Leone to a funeral of a healer, which a pregnant Kenema Government Hospital Ebola patient and other women who were also infected had attended.
Two months before his death, Mr Khan had described the dangers of treating people with the disease, telling Reuters he feared for his life.
A doctor examines blood samples of Ebola
He said: "I am afraid for my life, I must say, because I cherish my life. Health workers are prone to the disease because we are the first port of call for somebody who is sickened by disease. Even with the full protective clothing you put on, you are at risk."
More than half of the 3,069 people infected by Ebola have died from the disease, which has spread across Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, Nigeria and now Senegal.
The World Health Organisation has warned the current outbreak could infect up to 20,000 people before it ends.
The study, 'Genomic surveillance elucidates Ebola virus origin and transmission during the 2014 outbreak', is published online in Science Magazine.

N1trillion Is Not Enough To Fight Boko Haram- Obanikoro

Recently President Jonathan approached the National Assembly for $1bn to fight insecurity. Can you explain in specific terms what the money will be used for if the loan is granted? The money is to beef up our security capacity and acquire more equipment needed to make us a very strong country. Bodies of Ebola victims cremated in Lagos

Bodies of the four Nigerians, who died of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) have been cremated in line with World Health Organisation (WHO) requirements for disposal of such corpses.
The decision to cremate the bodies, it was gathered, may not be unconnected with the deadly nature of the Ebola Virus which is known to be easily transmissible from human to human, especially during handling of corpses of victims.
The body of the index (first) case, Patrick Sawyer was the first to be cremated on July 25, 2014.
A health official at the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) of the Mainland Hospital, Lagos, who confirmed the development, said the Lagos State Government in following strict guidelines for disposal of the bodies, authorised cremation of all the bodies.

How I survived Ebola- survivor recounts ordeal

In Mid-July when Alhassan Kemokai cuddled his dying mother, stroking her face and holding her hands, it never occurred to him that it was an open invitation to death.
The mother had Ebola ─ but he did not know. He thought it was a case of malaria, manifested in high fever, diarrhoea and sore throat.
Ten days after the death and burial of his mother, he too started having high fever, diarrhoea and sore throat.
By then, he had become aware of the symptoms of Ebola which had been ravaging his country, Sierra Leone. The symptoms are very similar to those of malaria.
Immediately, he started avoiding members of his family so as not to infect them. After three days of high fever, he decided to trek to Kenema government hospital ─ which was three miles away.
"My mum died on the 19th of July."
He made sure he avoided contact with everybody else; and despite all the emotional struggle he made it to the hospital.
He got treatment and was discharged after 12 days.
Speaking on video to The Guardian of London after he was certified Ebola-free, Kemokai described his experience with a big sense of relief.
