Ex-Ondo Speaker opens up- "We met with Obasanjo before defecting to APC"

Former Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly (ODSHA), Rt. (Hon.) Victor Adekanye Olabimtan has said his defection on Tuesday, with his supporters, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC) was possible after meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his Hilltop mansion, Abeokuta in Ogun State.
Olabimtan, who was the Speaker in 2003 during the administration of the late Governor Olusegun Agagu, disclosed this while addressing journalists shortly after his defection at the APC party's secretariat in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
While he disclosed that some aggrieved bigwigs of the PDP had earlier joined him on a courtesy visit to Obasanjo to table the party's position in Ondo State before the former president, Olabimtan noted that the defection was a fallout of the meeting held with the elder statesman and former Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman of the party.
"Our defection had to do with the visitation to Obasanjo. We had visited Baba (Obasanjo) at his Abeokuta home to seek his opinion on the current situation of what is happening in Ondo PDP and the country at large", he added.
Although, he refused to give in-depth detail of the meeting, Olabimtan disclosed that the oppression and impunity in the PDP, since the defection of Governor Olusegun Mimiko to the party necessitated his action and that of his supporters.
"There is now injustice, oppression and impunity in the Ondo State PDP.
The PDP, during the late Agagu's administration, is now different from the PDP of today. I know if our leader (Agagu) were to be alive, this mess won't be happening", he said.
Olabimtan, a Commissioner in the Federal Civil Service, maintained that he and his supporters were joining the APC to support the presidential ambition of General Muhammadu Buhari.
Thousands of PDP supporters, including Femi Agagu, former Chief of Staff and younger brother to the late Olusegun Agagu, had defected to the APC on Tuesday when they were received by the APC State Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, who promised a level playing ground and treat all the defectors equally.
