Gen Muhammadu Buhari, was a brilliant student who loved playing soccer during his time as a student of Government College Katsina, according to a former IGP and Court of Appeal President who were his classmates.
Two prominent former classmates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, have described him as "a brilliant student" during his days as a student of the Government College, formerly Provincial Secondary School, Katsina.
In an interview with Leadership newspapers, a former President of the Court of Appeal (PCA), Justice Umaru Abdullahi and a former Inspector General of Police, AlhajiIbrahim Coomassie, shed light on Bukhari's academic history amidst the raging certificate controversy.
Justice Abdullahi, who said he was Buhari's classmate from primary to secondary school, described the retired general as a brilliant student.
"I, Buhari and some others had the best results during our final examinations in secondary school back then," Abdullahi said.
"He was a very brilliant student in school, no doubt; we attended the same school from primary to secondary school."
Coomassie named the late Shehu Musa Yar'Adua, Second Republic Senator Abdul Ali and other prominent northerners as co-classmates of the Presidential-hopeful.
He added that Buhari was a head boy who loved to play football.
"While we were in school, Buhari was the head boy. He loves playing football. We were all close friends in school.
"After we finished secondary school, General Buhari decided to join the military, I joined the police and Justice Abdullahi decided to go to the university."
There had been controversy after opposition party loyalists suggested that Buhari might not have sat for and passed the West African School Certificate Examinations.
Many demanded for the retired general's certificate which his camp promptly said was with the Nigerian Army.
But, on the 20th of January, the Director, Army Public Relations, Olaleye Lajide, during a press conference in Abuja denied claims that the Nigerian Army is in possession of Buhari's academic credentials.
The Principal of the Government College has since released the result which showed that Buhari had a credit in English, Hausa, Geography, Health Science, History and failed Maths and Woodwork.
