How ‘Asun Night’ claimed lives of ACE students

Pandemonium broke out at the Adeyemi College of Education in Ondo as two students were reportedly crushed to death at the weekend by a commercial bus plying the area.
Another student of the college was said to have been on a danger list and currently receiving treatment at the Ondo Trauma Center.
The incident occurred at about 10:45 pm last Friday, during the college's "Asun Night" organised by the Alumni members of the institution, as part of the activities marking the 50th anniversary of the ACE, held at its campus.‎
It was learnt that the development nearly marred the celebration, but for the timely
intervention of the police.
Sources said the victims Akinkuotu Toyosi, a part three student of the English department and another student, Omobolawa Bola part four student of physics, were said to be returning from the event, when the incident happened.
Eye witness told DAILY POST that the duo died on the spot, the situation which triggered protest among the students, who trooped to the streets to protest the death of their colleagues.
They were said to have blocked the major roads in the community, which led to traffic gridlock in various parts of the ancient town.
However, the situation prompted head of various security organisations in the community to mobilize their members, who positioned themselves in strategic locations in the area, apparently to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The President of the Student Union Government, (SUG) Isiaka Kamarudeen, described the death of his colleagues as unfortunate.
Ac‎cording to him, the protest was to demonstrate their grievances on the death of their departed colleagues.
