Group wants ban on begging in Kano

As the world commemorates world international day for People Living With Disabilities, PLWD, the disabled people in Kano State have solicited for more support from the State government and donor agencies to enable them disengage from begging habits and be self reliant.
In view of the significance of the year, UNDP, M4D is supporting its partners PWD, CBO's in the Local Governments to use the opportunity to present articulated demands to PMs and canvass for the support of the community members to appreciate them.
Our reporter was at Garun Malam local government area yesterday to witness the various groups of people with disabilities commemorate the day, as they converged on the Islamic centre building in the town of Garun Malam.
Participants at the occasion comprised people with various forms of disabilities ranging from leprosy, blindness to those crippled as a result of unsuccessful treatment of polio meningitis.
The village head of Garun Malam, Muhammad Sani Tukur had told our reporter that the day was very important to him considering that his subjects who are physically challenged have been recognised worldwide and that the support getting to them was making very significant impact in their lives.
