INEC postpones PVC distribution, CVR exercise in Kaduna

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has again postponed the distribution of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and the Continuous Voters registration exercise in Kaduna State earlier schedule to take place from December 6 – 10 and December 10 – 15, 2014 respectively.
A statement issued by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Alhaji Haliru Tambuwal, in Kaduna said the PVC distribution would now hold from December 8 – 12, while the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) would now hold from December 12 – 17, 2014.
Meanwhile, the Igbos in Kaduna State under the umbrella of Igbo Community Welfare Association yesterday engaged in a massive sensitisation and mobilisation of their people in the state to ensure that they collect their PVCs for those who have already registered and participate in the CVR to make them eligible to vote in the 2015 general elections.
Speaking with newsmen on the occasion, president general, Igbo Community Welfare Association, Kaduna,   Barr Chris Nnoli said the sensitisation was tagged, "Register Today and Vote Tomorrow".
Barrister Nnoli however, expressed deep concern over continous postponement of the distribution of the PVCs in Kaduna State, saying that it could weaken the morale of the people to register for the card.
But INEC in its statement stated that the postponement was to give the commission time to address logistic problems that may impede hitch-free exercise ahead of 2015 general elections.
The statement added that INEC regretted any convenience the postponement would cost Kaduna State residents.
