Plateau State Governor, Mr. Jonah Jang, has suspended Prof. Danjuma Sheni, the Vice Chancellor of the Plateau State University, Bokkos, recently rechristened Solomon Lar University.
Our correspondent gathered that Sheni was suspended based on what the governor described as "inappropriate behaviour."
A terse statement from the office of the Secretary to the State Government on Thursday, did not however elaborate on what constituted the "inappropriate behaviour."
Our correspondent learnt the action may be connected with reappointment of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dadi Davou.
The VC had been having a running battle with the Pro-Chancellor. Prof. Sam Ale, who is an in-law to the governor, over the utilisation of university funds and interference in university administration.
The matter came to a head when a group of teachers in the university petitioned anti-graft bodies over some shady contract deals in the institution
However, the governor as the Visitor to the university ordered the reappointment of Davou, an action said to have violated the university laws. Davou, who was on sabbatical with the university, was appointed the DVC for a term of two and half years.
On the expiration of his appointment, the governor had reappointed Davou without the consent of the senate, prompting some members of the senate to file an action against Davou's reappointment.
Davou was said to have been prevented from participating in a meeting of the Senate of the university following the court action.
