Over 1000 policemen with high cert to get new placement

Over 1000 police officers who acquired high qualification while in service and have subsequently submitted their application for upgrade will, in the next few weeks,  enjoy new placement.

The certificates would however be verified and the officers would undergo intensive test before the placement.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, disclosed this while responding to questions from journalists after he has decorated 14 Commissioners of Police with their new ranks in Abuja, on Wednesday, June 3, 2015.

Arase charged the newly decorated officers to key into his administration’s policy thrust which he said lays much emphasis on zero tolerance for corruption, intelligence-led policing and restorative justice.

He said he would also take the welfare of junior officers seriously whenever they are posted.

Speaking on the over 1000 officers who applied for new placement, the IGP explained that the officers involved would have since got their new placement but that the  process was put on hold because of the preparation for the general elections.

Arase therefore assured that since the elections were over the department responsible for the verification of the  applications submitted have since commence the processes.

“Now that the elections are over, we have started processing those who submitted to us and we are going further to train them  and carry out a further test.

“Possessing a high certificate alone does not necessarily make you qualified for the promotion. We have to still do verification of the certificates,” he said.

In another development, the IGP has also launched the new press centre constructed by the police management for journalists covering the Force headquarters.

The press centre which is well equipped with state-of-the-art facilities is to operate 24 hours.

“In my first interaction with journalists, the first issue that came up was that any time you come in here to cover our activities, you are always in a hurry to go back and file your stories.

“We just felt that you should not be in a hurry to leave here, police are friendly people and the environment is friendly.  Therefore we decided to put in something like this with all the state-of-the-art facilities so that whenever you come and cover our event you can just walk in there and file you stories,” he explained.
