Muslim Teachers Deplores Level of Insecurity in the Country

Delivering an address at the Ramadan lecture of the Muslim Teachers' Association of Nigeria (MUTAN), the Lagos State chairman of MUTAN, Mr Raheem Alliyu, described the activities of Boko Haram as inhuman and un Islamic. He also prayed for the release of the female students abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, while charging security agencies and government at the different levels to co-operate in their quest to find the student and restore order in all parts of the country.

Alliyu also prayed for the repose of the souls of about 173 teachers who have been killed by Boko Haram.
The MUTAN Chairman also craved appointment of more teachers of Islamic Studies and Arabic as well as appointment of Muslims as Tutor Generals/Permanent Secretaries in Lagos State.
"We are still soliciting that the authorities concerned should look into appointing Muslims among the Tutor General/Permanent Secretaries as it was before. The current trend doesn't make us comfortable", he said.
Delivering the Ramadan Lecture entitled Jihad: A Misconstrued and Misunderstood Concept, the MUTAN Missioner, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladoyin, condemned the wrong notion of Jihad as related to violence.
"Jihad is a system of checks and balances. It is a way that Allah set up to check one people by means of another. When one person or group transgresses their limits and violates the rights of others Muslims have the right and duty to check them and bring them back into line", he said.
He also described the notion of terrorism as an alien concept in Islam, saying it is in defiance of laid down rules and tradition of Islam.
Drawing examples from the life of Prophet Muhammed, he said all the battles he fought were in self defence and forced on him.
He therefore charged parents to monitor their children in order to ensure they are not subjected to wrong indoctrination.
