‎‎Osun: Man dies testing potency of bullet charm

Attempt to ascertain potency of a charm, prepared to ward off bullets, by two cousins has gone awry, leading to the death of one of the two people involved in Asipa, a town in Ife North local government area of Osun State. Sources in the town told National Mirror that the two people involved, Rasheed Sulaimon and Siji, had left for a desolate part of town, with the aim of testing the potency of an amulet someone made for him, with alleged powers to ward off bullets. A resident of Asipa town, who preferred anonymity, told our correspondent that Sulaimon, a bricklaying apprentice had told Siji, said to be his cousin, to accompany him to Anglican Church area, to test the charm someone made for him. "Sulaimon has always been a tough guy and he is a bit older than Siji.
The two of them left for a desolate part of town to test the charm. Though the incident happened same day our market day here was being observed, but no one saw them until gunshot was heard," a source in the town had explained. According to eyewitnesses, shortly after the gunshot was allegedly fired, Siji, who fired the shot, reportedly said the deceased compelled him to shoot at him, to test the potency of an amulet he intended using during the forthcoming governorship poll. It was learnt that the incident which immediately threw the town into shock, has dominated discuss albeit in hush tones by people, while elders in the town were said to have been paying close attention to youths with a view to identify those of them that may be keeping similar charms and retrieve them before another similar incident is recorded. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun, DSP Folasade Odoro, said the command was yet to receive a report of the incident. She said: "No report made yet. At times, they would not report incident like that to the police."
