Mr Olugbenga Adesanya is the pastor of Goli (Gospel of Life) Vogue Ministry, Ikeja. He is a Chefnist Scholar of the British and an Energy Economist, with the International Association of Energy Economist.
He was also one time Secretary General of Nigeria Association of World Energy Council, was member of the Management Committee of the World Energy Council, and served for 10 years on the year 2052050 Global Energy Policy Management Group for the World Energy Council where they look at the energy of each continent of the world and advise them on what to do and also suggest policies.
In an interview with MedMETRO, he spoke with Medinat Kanabe on the seizure of 9.3 million dollars and an airplane taken to South Africa by two Nigerians and one Isreali saying that Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasir El-Rufai should stop attacking the said owner of the airplane, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor and President Goodluck Jonathan.
He said: “some people including El-Rufai, because they have access to the Media they waste no time in insulting and attacking even the person of President Goodluck Jonathan and Pastor Oritsejafor and the way they are presenting it, it is like they are even fighting for the masses.”
El- Rufai according to him is engaging in a risk as he says his intervention in the issue is ‘fake evidence appearing real’.
“Now this is not the first time, El-Rufai is doing this, to pastor Oritsejafor and the President. The president is a politician so he can take care of himself. He has a lot of people to do take care of the issue for him, but pastor Ayo is a servant of God, he cannot just come out and reply to every insult. So, I am saying that this issue should be clarified once and for all and there must be a stop by El-Rufai and his cohorts to this painful development in which you will just open your mouth and insult someone just because you hate him. I call it the gloating enemy; they just want to present him in bad light.”
He further stated that El-Rufai can keep himself busy with other much more serious matters in the state and country that needs attention instead of attacking an individual. “Even the FCT that he left, he left a lot of problems for them there, let him go and resolve those.”
Saying he remember former Vice President, Abubakar Atiku, declared during the week that he was running for presidency where he mentioned so many things from his youth until he became VP and how he and Obasanjo bettered the lives of Nigeria “but he did not mention corruption. He brought in El-Rufai as Director General DPE and under him, in privatising the telephoning in Nigeria they brought in a fake company, called Pentascope. When the National Assembly sent a team to investigate the address in Holland, it was a disused church building and until tomorrow nothing happened to them.”
Continuing he said, El-Rufai was the proponent of 3rd term against the constitution of Nigeria adding that when the 3rd term will not work and they had to leave, on May 27 to 28, he approved some lands allocations that were questionable and even got to EFCC, “so he has issues of his own let him, face his issues, think out a solution to Nigeria’s problems, let him come out if he wants to be a presidential candidate too but let him stop harassing pastor Ayo.”
Explaining his theory of what happened, he said: “Pastor Ayo has an airplane but anybody that is familiar with running an airplane knows that unless you are a perpetual traveller or you are a very big businessman that travels doing business and you need shuttles then you could engage your aeroplane but in his own case and with the cases of people that I know that have private jet, he leased it out to be able to cut costs. Many people have had to sell their airplanes off because the hanger facility alone cost a lot, as the idle time is more than the active time so what people do is they lease out their aeroplanes.”
Explaining further he said, in this case, a company came and took a long lease, where they can do anything with the airplane during the period of the lease. “So this company that leased the plane rented it out to two Nigerians and one Israeli who were on a trip to South Africa, now, whatever happened happened, they were arrested, the plane was impounded, now the company that leased the plane came out to say yes, we leased the plane, the Federal government came out and said we know about the money, it is meant for urgent equipment of the state security. The explanation given by the government should be taken but if anyone or a group of people have anything against it, let them ask the federal government.”
On why President Zuma of South Africa and the country’s National Prosecuting Authority is saying the issue is still under criminal investigation, Pastor Adesanya said that SA wants to sit on the money.
“If they find the story difficult to believe they should discuss and resolve the issue. Everything going on between Nigeria and South Africa is international politics. Let the Nigeria president link up with president Zuma and exploit the diplomatic channels. If there is a problem or loopholes then they should iron it out. They don’t need to make a big issue out of it.”
He gave an example with the son of a governor who was a long time ago caught with about 87 million pounds, in London. “When asked, the young man said he was given the money to purchase houses for some people and the case was handled diplomatically.”
He argued that it is possible to transport such amount of money without following due process if the money is needed urgently because going through the right process may cause the project to suffer. “Like money you take to super eagles or falcon when they are away and there is an emergency, going through the laid down rules and process will cause delay. So you look at other ways of doing things.”
He insisted that what concerns him is this attack on the president and Pastor Ayo saying it is not right to attack unduly a man of God. “I appeal to him to mind his own business. God will help him if he wants to run as Nigeria president, he is a young man and qualified, let him concentrate on that but let him not climb on the back of abuses on personalities.
“Have you ever heard anyone waking up in Singapore and insulting the president, things are working there. It is the same with Korea and even America when they see that the president is doing something wrong, they face the issue and never insult him.”
Saying he is sure the Bishop of Sokoto, Bishop Hassan Kukah will also never do that, he said even if he finds good evidence against Pastor Ayo, there are channels of communicating instead of going to the press and calling him names.
“I am concerned because Pastor Ayo is a man of God and has people whom he is leading that will be affected in a way. You just woke up and said the man must come out clean, he must explain, when he knew nothing about it. In fact he just came from an overseas trip where he ministered in some countries, he was having a quiet time with God when he heard what happened which is not good.”
Although he does not support the illegal movement of such amount of money from one country to the other, Pastor Adesanya said he is aware that under the diplomatic channel one could move a lot of things. “They do that among themselves, it is agreed. In the business of government, there are not too due process ways to move things but that is not to say that that is the best but they do it. There are also some matters of urgency that you don’t follow due process, what is important is accountability.”
He said since Nigeria considers SA as a friendly country as Nigeria contributed to their independence, the federal government felt it could do without informing SA government of that such money was coming into their country saying sometimes people just assume certain things.
“If at all it happened in France or Germany, you will hear just a Nigerian plane impounded and diplomatically they will resolve the issue, he concluded.”
