A Mexican man died after the gun he was taking a selfie with killed him last weekend.
The victim was identified by local media as 21-year-old Oscar Otero Aguilar.
Before the incident, Otero Aguilar had been drinking with two of his friends in northern Mexico City, Proceso said.
Police were called by the neighbour who heard the gun go off. He then rushed over to find Aguilar still alive; but by the time the police arrived, he was dead. Omar Abner Campos Vives, one of Aguilar's friends, was arrested while his other friend, 'El Paco', is on the run. Even though there was an arrest, it appears the death was a fatal mistake.
The safety was not on and the gun was loaded. Aguilar must have been unfamiliar with the safe use of firearms. Of course those who know how to use firearms safely would probably never pose with one aimed at their head. Even if it was unloaded.
Nobody knows where he got the gun but tragically, it was his last selfie. Since the Oscars, selfies have gained momentum. Since A-listers were caught on twitter posing for a selfie, people have adopted this new fad.
Phone companies are in a race to increase the mega-pixels on their front-facing cameras to make selfies more clear.
The selfie was meant to go on Facebook, the Ministry said.
Although this is probably the first case of death while taking a selfie, people should always be reminded that technology should never be abused.
