5 months old baby needs N5million for open heart surgery

Baby Tobiloba Ademuyiwa will be six months old on 30th October. Unlike many babies his age, baby Tobi is having great difficulty breathing because he is suffering from symptomatic congenital heart disease.

He therefore needs an urgent open heart surgery to correct his heart defects in order to forestall irreversible and life threatening complications according to a report signed by Prof. C.A.N Okoromah, a consultant Paediatrician with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH.
The treatment will involve a Truncus Arteriosus repair and further 3-4 more open heart surgery for change of conduit.
Speaking to The Nation, his parents Mr Ayodeji and Mrs Ayodamola Ademuyiwa said the condition was noticed a month after his birth.
“21 days after birth he took ill and was taken to the hospital. We noticed his breathe came in spasms so we knew something was wrong. He was diagnosed with symptomatic congenital heart disease (single ventricle, transposition of great arteries and pulmonary hypertension) in LUTH.
“The doctor told us that our son’s diseases were highly rare, complex, dangerous and almost incurable in Nigeria and that we would need to fly him to Bangalore, India as soon as possible. A recent echocardiography scan showed that the disease is spreading so we have been advised by our consultant to do the surgery in the next two months and it will cost us over N4million. People have started to donate but it is still too little compared to what we need.
“Right now they visit the hospital every two weeks for medications and he is on anti-heart failure drugs,” they said.
Donations can be sent to account number 2080699345, Ademuyiwa Ayodeji, Zenith Bank.
