There are believes that Kebbi State Deputy Governor Ibrahim K. Aliyu, one of the pioneer members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will dump the party for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
Daily Trust has reliably gathered yesterday in Birnin Kebbi that Aliyu had a secret meeting on Sunday night with Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Wamakko at the latter's personal residence in Sokoto.
Wamakko was said to have convinced him to defect to the APC.
"We were in Sokoto on Sunday and had a meeting with Gov. Wamakko at his personal residence and the deputy governor has accepted to join the APC," a source who was at the meeting confirmed to our correspondent.
The source also confirmed that the news of the deputy governor's move to decamp to the APC has already forced the ruling PDP and its governorship campaign team to start mounting pressure on Aliyu's kinsmen and the Emir of Yauri to intervene in the matter.
Already, some senior political aides to Aliyu have defected and started working for the APC in the state.
The deputy governor, currently in Yauri emirate attending a rally, was expected to sign a letter addressed to APC presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari to formally declare his defection and support to the party.
Aliyu is one of the 12 aggrieved PDP governorship aspirants from Kebbi South senatorial zone, who have been protesting against the PDP's primary poll that produced Sarkin-Yaki Bello as flag bearer.
Sen Muhammadu Magoro, a serving Senator from Kebbi South, who was also an aggrieved aspirant has already dumped the PDP and is currently the Chairman of North-west Mobilisation Committee of APC Presidential campaign organisation.
Close family source in the deputy governor's Yauri stronghold told our correspondent that the deputy governor may have bowed to pressure from family and close political associates to dump the PDP.
